Prerequisites (description):

The aim of the course is to supplement the topics covered during the lectures and to analyze selected issues of contemporary culture from an artistic, pedagogical and social perspective. During the following weeks we will analyze selected issues from the theory of art, film, theatre, literature and media, with particular emphasis on their aesthetic, educational and social functions. The classes show art, theatre, film and media education as elements of cultural education. Analysis of source texts in the field of cultural education, contemporary aesthetics and the theory of aesthetic education.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to supplement the topics covered during the lectures and to analyze selected issues of contemporary culture from an artistic, pedagogical and social perspective. During the following weeks we will analyze selected issues from the theory of art, film, theatre, literature and media, with particular emphasis on their aesthetic, educational and social functions. The classes show art, theatre, film and media education as elements of cultural education. Analysis of source texts in the field of cultural education, contemporary aesthetics and the theory of aesthetic education.

The seminar focuses on the following issues:

Contemporary aesthetics - selected issues

The theory of aesthetic education.

Contemporary aspects of the idea of education "to art" and "through art"

Theoretical and terminological approach to art and its role in social communication.

Contemporary art dilemmas: valuation and definitions of work of art, the meaning of the creator and recipient, art in public space, art in virtual space, dialogical art, community art, expanding the field of art, etc.

Art on the background of mass culture / pop culture / cyberculture

Contemporary culture

Culture of liquid modernity

Models of narrative in contemporary culture (immersion, interactivity, cybertext)

Contemporary theatre - ethics and aesthetics in contemporary theater (selected issues)

Film and new media - correspondence of arts

Learning outcomes:

In terms of knowledge, the student knows and understands:

EK_W01: relations between pedagogy and contemporary culture and art

EK_W02: selected problems in the field of contemporary aesthetics

EK_W03: selected issues in the field of contemporary art and its role in social communication and pedagogical activity

EK_W04: features of contemporary theatre and film taking into account their educational function

EK_W05: place of art in education and contemporary culture

EK_W07: selected problems of the culture of liquid modernity, pop culture and cyberculture and their impact on the educational space

In terms of skills, the student is able to:

EK_U01: use the knowledge of cultural education, contemporary aesthetics and the theory of aesthetic education in order to analyze educational problems.

EK_U02: analyze the mechanisms of culture and perceive pedagogical problems in connection with the changes in contemporary culture

EK_U03: make a critical evaluation of texts and forms of contemporary culture (with particular emphasis on artistic culture) and analyze them from a pedagogical perspective.

EK_U04: independently interpret works of classical and contemporary art and include them in pedagogical practice.

EK_U05: observe various socio-cultural phenomena, search, collect and process information about them and formulate the most important problems and propose solutions.

In terms of social competences, the student is ready to:

EK_K01: recognize the importance of culture and art in educational activities

EK_K02: take responsibility for co-creating contemporary culture

EK_K03: encourage other subjects of the educational process to active and diversified participation in culture

EK_K04: build a relationship based on mutual trust, express your own views while maintain the principles of discourse of ethics and respect the views of others

EK_K05: continue improvement of your knowledge

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The conditions for passing the course are provided by the teacher in each semester (essay, presentation, class participation, etc.)
