  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Short description:

The goal of the module is to equip students with the knowledge related to career guidance. The subject of interest are different areas of guidance activities aimed at functioning of adults.

Full description:

The goal of the module is to get acquainted with the issues related to career guidance. The students will acquire the up-to-date knowledge of the modern labour market in a local and global dimension – its elements, indicators and regularities. They get to know the tools used by a career counsellor for individual and group counselling, aimed at work with selected social groups. During the course career management issues will be tackled. The students will study modern concepts of career management and professional development. Additionally, the students will recognise the need of regularly updating their labour market knowledge as well as pursuing their own cognitive and professional development.

Knowledge: the student

1. Possesses extensive knowledge in the area of social sciences, with focus on adult development

2. Possesses interdisciplinary knowledge of the current labor market, and the mechanisms regulating the functioning of adults on this market

3. Understands the indicators and regularities of the labor market

4. Is familiar with advanced terminology relating to career management

5. Possesses structuralized, in-depth knowledge on:

a) Theoretical concepts relating to career management and professional development (qualifications, competencies, management in different science disciplines, work, development, career)

b) Classification of professions and specializations, assumed to be the tools in the labor market

c) Methods and tools used to describe professional career

d) Career counselor methodic skills: diagnosis, group and individual work, hosting individual counseling sessions

Abilities: the student

1. Is able to independently acquire and analyze knowledge on the relation between the adult and the changing requirements of professional work

2. Can take autonomous action to develop own competencies and drive own professional career

3. Is able to source, analyze, evaluate and integrate information necessary for developing own counseling approach

4. Is able to match correct models of professional development to individual adult needs

5. Is able to correctly interpret the phenomena occurring in the labor market and show the balance between them and their consequences for people in the labor market

6. Is able to correctly design a counseling process for groups with special social needs

7. Demonstrates the ability to independently propose counseling solutions taking into account different groups of recipients

Social competencies: the student

1. Correctly identifies and resolves dilemmas associated with professional career management

2. Understands the need of keeping the knowledge on the labor market up to date, and to self improve
