Short description:

The increasing role of media in the modern world affects process of participation in culture. During the course, students will analyze contemporary forms of cultural participation, cultural needs in Poland, leisure activities and art-recipient relationship in mediated society. Students will compare the cultural competence and media competence and they will answer the question of what should be the cultural education today

I. Media in cultural education:

- The concepts of culture, cultural education, participation in culture, dissemination of culture

- Selected philosophies about media

- Role of media in creating culture

- Contemporary forms of participation in culture - new questions about participation in culture

- Cultural needs of modern man

- Cultural and artistic activity in the age of new media

- Culture of free time - free time and the media

- New media and new ways of thinking, feeling and acting in society

- The role of media in shaping the identity of modern man

- Modernism - postmodernism - cyberculture

- Art in cyberculture

- Artist-work-recipient in the age of digital media

- Cultural competence and media competence

- cultural education – film education

II. Cultural education in media:

Selected examples of cultural education: disseminating, making art and culture available and accessible in media.
