Short description:

The main objective of the course is for the students to develop and improve linguistic and communicative competence. The aim of the course is to develop the students’ practical language skills, i.e. productive and receptive skills, and to enrich the students’ vocabulary and to develop the use of a variety of grammatical structures.

Full description:

Upon completion a student can understand a wide range of longer texts; s/he can express himself/herself fluently and spontaneously; s/he can use language flexibly and effectively for social, professional and academic purposes; s/he can produce clear, well-structured, detailed texts on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

Learning outcomes:

On completion of the course the student:

• has an active vocabulary in English (in thematic areas covered by the module) at the C1/C1+ level

• has a detailed knowledge of practical grammar of the English language and can apply it properly, orally and in writing, at the C1/C1+ level

• can express and justify his/her opinion, has communicative competence in English corresponding to the C1/C1+ level

• reads and understands original texts in English (fiction, popular science and media) at the C1/C1+ level

• can prepare and edit written texts on given topics in English at the C1/C1+ level

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The assessment is based on

1) attendance,

2) preparation for classes and doing homework (exercises, written assignments)

3) active participation in classes,

4) two tests (in the middle and at the end of the term) covering the material discussed in class
