Prerequisites (description):

The idea is to prepare students for a professional diagnosis of children with learning difficulties. Students will learn the methods, techniques and strategies of pedagogical diagnosis and obtain the skills allowing to use them adequately according to the needs of children.

Short description:

The course allows you to explore different types of learning disabilities, their symptoms and causes. It also provides the basis for the professional use of methods, techniques and pedagogical diagnostic tools in order to identify the appropriate therapeutic management.

Full description:

This course allows you to explore different types of learning disabilities such as reading, writing, counting difficulties and also the more specific ones such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and dysorthography. Students will gain the ability to construct the tools for diagnosing the children with educational difficulties and learn professional techniques used in the diagnosis and determining the different types of learning disabilities. They also gain knowledge of the theoretical foundations of pedagogical diagnosis, its characteristics, principles and ethical use.

Learning outcomes:

Students will recognize and interpret the symptoms of learning difficulties in children allowing them to choose the most suitable therapy. Students will learn the causes and characteristic symptoms of children educational difficulties. They will be able to use the diagnostic tools in order to determine the therapeutic needs of children and also analyze and evaluate children’s work. Students will be able to create tools helpful in verifying children's educational difficulties. Students will apply the principles of pedagogical diagnosis, uphold the ethics and become sensitive to the needs of children and their difficulties.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Passing the course will require the students to prepare three written works, of which two are practical and one is theoretical. Pro-active attitude during classes will be an advantage.
