Full description:

Analysing the skills required for reading different kinds of texts and learning to use them when reading in English. Basic information about the theory of effective reading in a foreign language. Extensive and intensive reading for homework.

The organisation of a written text and individual paragraphs.

Writing formal and informal texts.

Learning outcomes:

Encouraging students to develop their reading comprehension skills in English. Developing writing skills and learning to adapt them to the purpose of the text and the target reader.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Every student will read an article set for homework, i.e. on the role of reading comprehension in learning a foreign language. In addition, every student will do about 10 pieces of different kinds of writing for homework and 2 in class. Final assessment will depend on the average grade obtained for those assignments and on how active the student is in class.
