  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Short description:

The purpose of the course is to analyze fiscal policies in selected European countries. As a result, a student should recognize the differences in fiscal policies and identify the basic determinants of government actions. A student should be able to choose appropriate fiscal policy to the changes occurring in the economy and he/she should be able to link it with theoretical background. Finally a student should be aware of the importance of fiscal policy in achieving selected macroeconomic goals.

Full description:

1. Fiscal policy and financial policy. The basic characteristics of fiscal policy and its impact on the economy.

2. Methods for analyzing fiscal policies. Examples of different fiscal policies and their determinants. The theoretical basis for fiscal policy modeling.

3. Preparation for testing fiscal policies, including the selection of methods and data.

4. Analysis of the policies in crisis time and presentation of obtained results.

Learning outcomes:

A student knows the basic concepts related to fiscal policy. Student distinguishes different types of fiscal policies and he/she is able to identify the reasons for their differentiation.

The student can apply the appropriate econometric tools to explain changes in fiscal policy and the impact of the latter on the economy.

A student is aware of the links between theory predictions and the observed fiscal adjustments. He or she can find appropriate econometric methods to verify the observed interdependences.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The teaching effects are assessed according to the conducted research on fiscal policies in European countries. The analyses are carried out in two-person groups and they are at least partially presented during the seminar.
