ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The main aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to apply the concept of business process management. As part of the course, students will use IT tools to manage business processes - Adonis and / or ARIS systems.

Full description:

•Introduction to Business Process Management (BPM). Processes vs. functions. Defining and classifying of business processes. Features of processes. Architecture of business processes. Process-based management concepts.

• BPM life cycle: identifying, discovering, documenting, analyzing, improving processes. Critical Success Factors for BPM. BPM Case Studies.

• Methods (mainly BPMN and EPC) and IT tools for process modeling (Adonis, ARIS). Practical modeling tasks with the use of appropriate methods and tools.

Learning outcomes:

A) Knowledge: Student knows and understands the essence of the process approach in organization management. Student has knowledge of the main concepts of process-based management, can explain the legitimacy of their use, advantages and limitations. Understands the impact of business process management on the efficiency of the organization.

B) Skills: Student is able to define the value chain of an organization, identify the main and support business processes. Student analyzes practical BPM case studies and proposes solutions to problems based on the features and principles of process construction. Student uses ARIS and / or Adonis IT tools to model business processes. Student uses analysis methods of time, quality and cost of processes. Student is able to propose improvements in the implementation of processes.

C) Social competences: Student is able to cooperate and work in a group during the analysis of case studies and practical projects. Student is able to complete and improve the acquired knowledge and skills.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Test from the theoretical part (30%). In-class exercises and homework (30%). Project of business process modeling within the teams (30%).
