ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): (not available) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

2. Providing students with the latest research reports from leading journals or ongoing large research projects in various areas of cognitive science

3. Developing the ability to critically present scientific texts and to participate in the discussion and lead scientific discussion

Full description:

Classes take place throughout the entire academic year, 30 hours per semester (10 sessions, 2.5 clock hours with a break of 15 minutes = 3 didactic hours each) in each semester. Enrollment for each semester is kept separately. The first session of the winter semester will take place in November and in summer semester in March to enable organizers to prepare. Classes are held in a mixed mode (session organizers and authors of presentations plus a number of passive participants in the room, plus internet transmission; due to the epidemiological situation, it is possible to organize the session entirely on-line).

Tow kinds od session are possible:

1. The “journal club”. The session consists of 4-5 20-minute presentations with a short discussion (maximum 2-3 short questions, not more than 5 minutes in total), and a final open discussion, a 30-minute minimum (the final discussion can be preceded by a summary presentation, a maximum of 20 minutes). The subject of the presentation may be the latest (from the last 2 years) publications from leading journals from all areas of cognitive science. As a rule, one session should contain thematically related publications, but one or two “miscelanea” sessions per semester may be accepted.

2. Project presentation. In this type of session, the advisor / tutor together with a student or students from his studio, or an invited guest from outside the University of Warsaw, present a broader research project (theoretical context and completed or planned studies). In the case of smaller projects, it is possible to present two projects within one session (possibly close thematically)

All questions in discussions (both final and after individual papers) must be reported to the leader of the discussion via an electronic messenger.

Session topics can be submitted (along with titles and a list of authors of at least two papers) to the lecturer. The lecturer (acting as the "conference program committee") will decide on the acceptance of the session based on (1) the assessment of the topicality, quality and relevance of the proposed presentations to cognitive science, (2) ensuring balanced representation of different areas of cognitive science. The lecturer may decide to combine the proposals of two sessions within one, or may suggest a modification of the topic of the session / selection of papers. At the beginning of the year, a ready list of 5-6 exemplary session topic suggestions will be made available to those interested in registering and organizing sessions. Accepted sessions will be announced to all students/participants with a call for additional few papers.
