Short description:	The course will deal with the little known domain of psychology: psychology of place. We will discuss: (1) the concept of place, its distinctive features and it’s relation to the concepts of „space” and “non-places”; (2) theoretical approaches present in study of places, including phenomenological approaches (Tuan, Relph, Seamon, Buttimer), community psychology approaches (e.g. Perkins), ecological psychology (Barker, Gibson); (3) essential dimensions of place (open-closed, homogeneous-heterogeneous etc.); (4) relationships of people and places (place attachment, place identity, place satisfaction, traditional vs. active forms of place attachment), measurement of people-place relationships; (5) features of place as predictors of place attachment ; (6) designing good places (public spaces, residential environments); (7) secure places – how to guarantee security, (8) memory of places.
Full description:	The course will deal with the little known domain of psychology: psychology of place. We will discuss: (1) the concept of place, its distinctive features and it’s relation to the concepts of „space” and “non-places”; (2) theoretical approaches present in study of places, including phenomenological approaches (Tuan, Relph, Seamon, Buttimer), community psychology approaches (e.g. Perkins), ecological psychology (Barker, Gibson); (3) essential dimensions of place (open-closed, homogeneous-heterogeneous etc.); (4) relationships of people and places (place attachment, place identity, place satisfaction, traditional vs. active forms of place attachment), measurement of people-place relationships; (5) features of place as predictors of place attachment (scale of place, places of residence vs. places of recreation, big cities vs. small towns, culturally homogeneous vs. heterogeneous places, historical vs. history-less places ); (6) designing good places (public spaces, residential environments); (7) secure places – how to guarantee security, (8) memory of places. When discussing various topics we will focus on the contribution of psychology place to other psychological disciplines such as cognitive psychology, social psychology, psychology of emotions, developmental psychology and on the contribution of other disciplines to research in psychology of place.

Learning outcomes:	(in Polish) Wiedza. Student: • Zna różne nurty w badaniach miejsca ii podstawowe nazwiska badaczy miejsca • Swobodnie porusza się w siatce pojęć tworzonej w różnych dyscyplinach zajmujących się miejscem • Integruje wiedzę z różnych nurtów zajmujących się miejscem Postawy. Student: - jest tolerancyjny wobec różnych ujęć teoretycznych w badaniach nad miejscem i różnych metodologii badań Umiejętności. Student - analizuje konkretne miejsca pod kątem ich potencjalnej ważności i wartości dla różnych kręgów użytkowników
Assessment methods and assessment criteria:	(in Polish) Zajęcia nie będą mieć charakteru referatowego ale na każdych zajęciach dwie osoby będą odpowiedzialne za inicjowanie i moderowanie dyskusji na bieżący temat. Będą też mogły coś od siebie dodać do omawianej tematyki (na przykład w postaci krótkiej prezentacji/ilustracji). Trzecią osobą będzie prowadzący. Warunki zaliczeni:, (1) aktywność na zajęciach (30%) (2) przygotowanie pisemnej pracy dotyczącej wybranego zagadnienia z psychologii miejsca (35%) (3) sprawdzian wiedzy po zakończeniu kursu (35%)
