ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

During the classes, students will be introduced to the principles of operation and basic controlling instruments

Full description:

The introduction will discuss the essence and development of controlling in an organization (different approaches to the definition of controlling, the main goals of using controlling, the main tasks and functions of controlling in an enterprise, controlling and financial and management accounting,

stages of controlling development, development of controlling in Poland). The next topic of the course will be the classification of controlling systems

(strategic and operational controlling, - controlling from a functional perspective, types and tasks of financial controlling). The conditions for using controlling in the enterprise will be discussed (modification of the management structure, creation of responsibility centers for...

costs, revenues, profits and investments, requirements of controlling reports, principles of creating control and decision-making information).

The organizational aspects of controlling will be complemented by organizational aspects of the functioning of controlling in the enterprise (tasks of the controller, the controller's place in the organizational structure of the entity, stages of implementation of controlling in the enterprise, stages

controlling works in the enterprise).

The main part of the subject will be a discussion of the main controlling tools (budgeting - goals and types, methods of cost variance analysis, control and result accounts of coverage margins, methods of factor analysis of coverage margins, threshold

profitability and financial safety margin, economic indicators, the role of balanced scorecard in measuring strategic achievements).

An important issue of the subject is the discussion of investment project evaluation methods (simple and discount methods in project evaluation, project cash flows, discounting, NPV project present value, IRR internal rate of return).

The last important issue will be budgeting in responsibility centers (operational budgets, financial budgets, principles of cost budgeting, creating the main budget).

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student recognizes the basis of controlling elements: budget, deviations, places of costs, places of profit creation, implementation of main and secondary budgets, has knowledge about operational and strategic controlling, the method and methods of creating budgets.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Test, final colloquium.
