ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 0.50 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

The course will address the following issues:

Intellectual Property- basic definitions , history , legal basis

Sources of intangibles rights

Importance of intellectual property

Intellectual property rights holder or the author and his laws

Public domain, fair use

Right to quote

Plagiarism

Responsibility for copyright infringement

Agreements concerning transferring proprietary copyrights

Industrial property - selected issues

Databases and the protection of intellectual property

Bibliography:

The presentation outlined and discussed the provisions of the Act of 4 February 1994 on copyright and related rights

Learning outcomes:

Student:

- recognizes subject matters of intellectual property rights, with differentiation between them and other rights

-know the basic copyright regulations

- knows how to put into practice right to quote

-knows what is plagiarism

- knows essential liability rules to copyright infringement

- recognizes types of agreements concerning transferring proprietary copyrights

- understands the importance of industrial property and its protection

- distinguishes between the database and knows the scope of their protection
