Libraries in the Educational System and in Culture

During the course, we discuss the educational and cultural functions of libraries in the context of their functioning as cultural institutions. We look at libraries as a place of dialogue between the author, reader and librarian.

The subject is intended to introduce students to:

• educational and cultural activities as the basic mission for the local / regional environment carried out by libraries (e.g. school, public)

• cooperation of libraries with other cultural institutions (e.g. museums, archives)

• various forms of activity and implemented projects.

Detailed issues that will be discussed include:

1. Libraries in the education and culture system

- in formal and organizational terms

- in functional terms

- according to the theory of cultural capital (P. Bourdieu)

2. Libraries as part of the GLAM sector

3. Libraries - culture and education during a pandemic

Students will acquire basic knowledge on the topics:

1) cultural institutions in Poland;

2) rules of their financing;

3) carried out by the task library for education and culture

The condition for completing the course is obtaining a sufficient number of attendance.
