ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 4.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

During the lecture the most important problems of development and current state of the

Mediterranean archaeology will be presented. Definition and development of the

Mediterranean archaeology will be discussed in the historical and geographical perspective. A

particular place will be reserved to the Classical archaeology (Graeco-Roman one),

complemented by the history of research in Egypt and Near East. Polish archaeological

activities in the Mediterranean will be also included.

Full description:

During the course ithe history of archaeology will be presented from the origins of the

concept of archaeology and its content, through the changes in methodology, both of the

academic and excavations approach until the birth of the archaeology as a scientific

discipline. The history of archaeology, especially the Greco-Roman one, followed by the

history of research in Egypt and Near East will be presented both in chronological and

geographical aspects, with the emphasis on changes in the legislation of the European

countries, Ottoman Empire and Egypt, that affected the status and preservation of the

monuments. Polish archaeological activities in the Mediterranean will be also included.

Detailed literature will be given during classes

Learning outcomes:

Gaining basic knowledge about the history of archeology as a discipline of research, together

with knowledge of its place and its importance in the system of the humanities; understanding

the relationship of archaeology with other disciplines of humanities, especially history of

societies, their culture and art history; knowledge about the main directions of the

development of Mediterranean archaeology. Enabling learning about the history of discipline

with the ability to use multiple sources followed by their critical analysis and interpretation in

order to determine their significance and place in the process of the discipline development, in

historical and cultural perspective. Appreciating the role of tradition and cultural heritage of

humanity in the modern world

Assessment methods and assessment criteria: (in Polish)

W trakcie wykładu przewidziane 2 obowiązkowe prace pisemne i dyskusja na forum, które

będą podlegać ocenie w skali od 2 do 5.

Na koniec kursu: egzamin pisemny on-line, oceniony według wartości procentowej

zaliczonych pytań: od 0 do 50% - ocena niedostateczna, od 50,1% do 67% - ocena dostateczna,

od 67,1% do 84% ocena dobra, od 84,1 do 100% ocena bardzo dobra.

Końcowa ocena będzie wynikową (średnią) otrzymanych ocen cząstkowych i oceny z

egzaminu.
