ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The history of women's emancipation in Poland in the 19th and 20th centuries in the context of Europe. Contents include topics of change in several areas: gender order (norms, social roles, discourses), education, labour, participation in public spheres, women's movements.

Short description:

The course aims to learn about stages and fields of emancipation processes that changed the situation of women in Poland in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Full description:

Topics discussed in the course explore the changes taking place in the 19th and 20th centuries in the following areas:

- gender order and social norms

- political participation

- labour market

- education

- social activity

- fight for gender equality

- women's movement

Learning outcomes:

After completion of the course, the student:

- knows the basics of the scholarship on women's/gender history, in Poland

- knows and understands history of women's emancipation in Poland and Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries

- identify key factors and stages of this process

- can critically refer to various discourses on the subject

- analyse sources and identify their types

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Course requirements:

1. attendance in class (1 absence is allowed, in case of further absences - pass the material on duty or written work

2. substantial preparation (knowledge of the readings)

3. active participation during the classes
