Short description:

The aim of the course is to develop language awareness and the ability to use the language correctly in its grammatical layer (inflection, syntax), and to familiarize students with the most difficult problems of Polish spelling and punctuation, as well as the normative issues of Polish pronunciation. Students become equipped with the tools allowing to notice changes in the language and to assess them on their own.

Full description:

The course is designed to familiarize students with the most important normative problems of the contemporary Polish in terms of pronunciation, spelling, punctuation, inflection, syntax, and the mechanisms of language errors in this regard. Classes are devoted to grammar (inflection and syntax). Students, guided by the teacher, shall review various contemporary texts. The COME online course concerns pronunciation, spelling and punctuation. During the monographic lecture, the lecturer discusses one selected issue concerning the contemporary Polish language.

All exercise groups follow the same program.

Learning outcomes:

A student:

- uses the Polish language according to socially approved rules;

- knows the codification of the Polish spelling and punctuation;

- uses the Polish language in accordance with the pronunciation correctness;

- recognizes the types of grammatical errors and the mechanisms of their occurrence, is able to describe these errors using normative linguistics terms;

- analyzes the contemporary Polish texts to make normative assessments and justifies these opinions about language and texts, performs the language correction of the text;

- recognizes the basic growth trends of the contemporary Polish language regarding pronunciation, inflection and syntax;

- demonstrates the concern of language;

- while assessing the language, refers to the contemporary correctness and codification publications.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

- having passed all tests carried out in class (eventually, at least 60%);

- having passed all tests at the COME platform (eventually, at least 60%);

- having passed the test concerning the lecture (at least 60%);

-having passed the final central examination (more than 50%)

Two absences per semester are allowed.
