Short description: |
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with theoretical basics of normative linguistics and to master abilities to correctly use the language. Participants get to know the most important growth trends of contemporary Polish language, and are equipped with tools allowing them to notice changes in the language, to make their own assessments. |

1. Where can we find answers to questions about linguistic correctness? How to use Internet and traditional sources? Standard, usus, codification. 2-3. How to use numerals correctly? 4-5. Difficult inflected words. 6-9. How to correctly build a sentence? (syntactic homonymy, syntactic abbreviations, function words, order, participial sentence equivalents, etc.). 10-12. Difficult words (confused words - paronyms, semantic redundancy, conditions of appropriateness - incorrect stylistic selection of words, the use of metaphors in a functional text). 13-14. Idioms - standard and innovative uses. Words that like each other. |

Learning outcomes: |
A student: - uses Polish language according to socially approved rules; - adapts the choice of language means to circumstances, such as recipient’s abilities, social function; - identifies types of language mistakes and mechanisms of their formation, describes them using terminology of normative linguistics; - analyzes contemporary Polish texts to make normative assessments and justifies these opinions about language and texts, performs the language correction of the text; - recognizes basic growth trends of contemporary Polish language regarding inflection, syntax and vocabulary; - while assessing the language, refers to contemporary correctness and codification publications; - explains and assesses lexical phenomena in contemporary Polish language; - knows the terminology in the field of language culture and is able to use it, - knows how the choice of vocabulary and grammatical forms influences the reception of the text. |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Passing all homework (using Google Clasroom or platform Kampus) and tests (at the level of at least 60%). Passing the final test in the form of open questions (at least 60% level). Two absences per semester are allowed. Above this number (except for immediately documented cases, e.g. sick leave) - it is not possible to pass the classes. Excused extra absences must be made up in the manner indicated by the person conducting the classes Student work schedule: participation in classes: 30 hours (1 ECTS) preparation for exercises and assessment: 30 hours (1 ECTS) performing tasks, works, tests and other activities: 30 hours (1 ECTS). The use of artificial intelligence systems to perform tasks and works, their correction and editing is prohibited. |
