ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 10.00 OR 12.00 (differs over time) Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;

Competence in Lithuanian, enabling free lecture of literary and critical texts.

Basic knowledge on history of Lithuanian literature.

Short description:

The seminar, as a final specialization course at the second degree of studies, is designed to give the student the opportunity to explore knowledge gained during other literary studies, to bring up and develop issues of selected subjects in the field of literary studies, prepare to present the acquired knowledge and motivate to conduct independent scientific research.

The seminar, as a final specialization course at the second degree of studies, is designed to give the student the opportunity to explore knowledge gained during other literary studies, to bring up and develop issues of selected subjects in the field of literary studies, prepare to present the acquired knowledge and motivate to conduct independent scientific research.

The participants of the course broaden their knowledge about the methodology of conducting research, get acquainted with studies in the field covered by the seminar, with particular focus on texts related to the subject of their own diploma thesis. They will also get acquinted with the search tools appropriate for philology, learn how to select and use information from written and electronic sources.

Bibliography:

The range of topics and lectures depends on the scientific interests of the lecturer and each cycle will be consulted with the participants of the seminar.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

– student has knowledge about recent literary tendencies in Lithuanian literature;

– student can identify main contemporary Lithuanian writers and is able to characterise their work.

Abilities:

– analyses literary and critical text on his/her own;

– summarises and criticises scientific theses presented in texts;

– chooses and uses literature properly for research and in the process of preparation of MA thesis;

– is able to synthesise literary phenomena an topics;

– is able to formulate problems interesting to him/her.

Attitudes:

– student understands ethical issues concerning honesty and scientific thoroughness in scientific research and discussion.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

1st year MA students: continuous assessment (current preparation for classes and activity), presenting and discussing a preliminary draft of MA thesis.

2nd year MA students: continuous assessment (current preparation for classes and activity), presentation of a fragment of MA thesis, MA paper presentation.

The student has the right to 2 absences in the semester.

Participants will get acquainted with authors and texts that were not included in the basic program of the "History of Lithuanian Literature" course. The seminar is designed to expand students' literary competence, develop their ability to interpret literary works using particular research methods and prepare to write their master thesis.

Full description:

The seminar will discuss the works of authors who were not included in the basic program of the "History of Lithuanian Literature" course or less canonical texts of writers already known. Looking at the history of Lithuanian literature from a slightly different perspective will allow seminar participants to develop analytical competences, sensitize to different points of view and interpretation strategies, develop the ability to independently assess historical and literary processes. Students will learn the methodology of conducting research, critical analysis of the text and learn about new developments in the field of the seminar covered. At the next stages, the seminar participants prepare an outline of the work, collect a bibliography and present the results of their work in the form of self-reports.
