Short description: |
Interdisciplinary science with elements of geology, soil science, climatology, paleontology, archaeobotany and archaeozoology which presents the relationship between the man and the environment in the past. |
Full description: |
This subject is to present sciences related to archaeology, their relationships and opportunities to exploit their achievements. Knowledge of research methods to enable reconstruction of the environment in the past and its changes under the influence of human activities. The following issues will be discussed: 1. The history of natural science in Poland and abroad 2. Earth as a system; structure of the Earth 3. Geology as a science 4. Rocks, minerals and sediments 5. Plate tectonics 6. Origin and diversity of life on Earth 7. Natural and sedimentary depositional environments 8. Quaternary (modern and traditional systems of Quaternary stratigraphy, climate, glacial-interglacial cycle, palaeogeography of Poland) 9. Environmental changes in the Quaternary 10. Soil, fossil soils and soil forming processes 11. The history of plants on Earth 12. Domestication of plants 13. Use of plants: the economy, food, medicine 14. Archaeobotany: history of research and research possibilities 15. Archaeobotany: studies of micro- and macro-remains 16. Dendrochronology 17. The history of animals on Earth 18. Domestication of animals 19. Archaeozoology: research methods, results and interpretations 20. Geophysical and geochemical methods in archaeology 21. Palaeoecological studies: palaeolimnology and malacology 22. Methods for reconstruction of palaeoenvironmental conditions Note: Somer topics can take more than one class. |
