ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The course aims to present the fundamental issues concerning the formulation of research questions in anthropology.

Full description:

The topics will include:

- formulation of research problems, as it determine methodology;

- status of diverse sources in contemporary ethnography;

- status of the declaration of the people researched;

- relationship between the non-discoursive character of ethnographic fieldwork and the athropological text;

- methodological individualism vs. holism;

- researcher's identity as a determinant of anthroplogical reflection;

- descrepancies of outcom in ethnographic research;

- valuation and judgments in anthropology - the limits of engagement;

- the potentiality of comparative reflection in anthropology;

- methodological anarchism: Paul Feyerabend.

Learning outcomes: (in Polish)

Rozumie problemy i specyfikę projektowania współczesnych badań społecznych. Zna różnice metodologiczne pomiędzy różnymi dyscyplinami badawczymi. Potrafi w sposób holistyczny korzystać z metodologii nauk społecznych. Jest przygotowany do diagnozowania złożonych problemów społecznych przy pomocy różnorodnych strategii metodologicznych.
