Short description: |
The lecture presents the development in anthropology and other social sciences since the 1980s. We will discuss various theoretical approaches including postcolonial theory, studies of power and resistance, relation between structure and agency, globalization, and gender studies. |

1. Postmodermism in art, literature and anthropology. 2. Late modernity, postmodernity and self-identity. 3. Theories of globalization. 4. "Power" as an analytical category in contemporary social sciences. Relation between power and knowledge. 5. Anthropology of the state. Studies of agency, power and resistance. 6. Anthropology after the Cold War. Studies of postcolonialism and postsocialism. 7. Psychoanalysis and its influence on social sciences. 8. Anthropology of emotions and nonverbal forms of communication. 9. Cultural studies. 10. Body as a subject of anthropological inquiry. 11. Contemporary directions in kinship. 12. Gender as an analytical category in contemporary social science. 13. Social dimensions of developments in science and technology. 14. Political engagement of anthropology. Applied anthropology. |
