  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;

Short description:

The first part of the course deals with the preparation of academic papers: planning, choice of form, edition and correction. .

Full description:

The first part of the course deals with the preparation of academic papers: planning, choice of form, edition and correction. An important aspect of the course is the art of correct quotation and creating a clearly presented bibliography. We will also see how academic texts are constructed, what the differences are between various styles of academic writing, and what the strong and weak points of each style are. In the second part of the course we will discuss selected issues of musical anthropology, the history and aesthetic of rock, jazz and film music. Discussions will familiarise students with topics which they may encounter when writing their future bachelor’s dissertations and master’s theses.

Credits can be obtained on the basis of a final paper.

Having completed the course, student:

- is able to prepare texts according to scholar rules (citations, bibliography, planning, academic way of expressing thoughts)

- is able focus on popular music according to modern theories presented during classes

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

All students will be expected to produce a mid-term essay (pp. 8, 1,5-spaced, Times New Roman 12) after an individual consultation with the instructor (topic, bibliography)

Paper will be graded on the basis of its conceptual originality, language, proper citations following a standard citation convention.

Short description:

How to write a scientific paper: literature review, ideas, theme, model, review, commentary.

Full description:

During the proseminar, we will work on various aspects of a scientific text. We will work on preparing our own work: from planning, through choosing the form, to editing and proofreading. An important aspect will be the problem of reliable, proper citation (including the increasingly used electronic media) and creating bibliography. We will deal with issues of reporting, summarizing, which are important and useful not only for studies. In addition to technical issues, we will deal

with theoretical texts.

Preferred scope of topics: traditional music, folk music. soundscape, popular music.

Bibliography:

Literature will be presented during classes.
