ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

The course provides basic skills connected to the information technologies, useful for musicologists.

Full description:

During the course, subsequent topics/issues will be presented:

- on-line catalogues, their types and content, methods of searching (library catalogues, catalogues of music sources, thematic catalogues of music collections, thematic catalogues of composers’ works, etc.)

- digital libraries, their types and content, methods of searching

- digital resources available at the University (databases, tools, webinars etc. – where to look for them, how to use them)

- tools for reference management

- tools and skills useful for preparing a presentation

- digital editions of music

- popularisation of musicological knowledge via Internet (scientific websites, websites of popular science, popularisation of knowledge through social media)

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student:

- knows basic databases, digital libraries and on-line catalogues useful for musicologists

- knows how to search for necessary information in catalogues, digital libraries and databases, using different methods

- knows how to search for useful tools from the field of information technology, available at the University; has basic skills in using them and/or knows how to gain and broaden them depending on needs

- has basic skills in handling selected tools for reference management

- has basic skills in handling selected tools for digital editions of music

- knows how to work in a group, taking different roles

- is aware of the importance of new technologies for the development of the discipline

- is aware of the importance of popularisation of knowledge, also through communication technologies
