An elementary Latin course which presents basic rules of Latin grammar and prepares students to translate of simple Latin texts on their own. What is more, Latin (and Ancient Greek) legacy in the wide understood music terminology is discussed during the classes. |

The subject contents: - the basic rules of the Latin grammar (inflection) and the Latin vocabulary - reading simple Latin texts containing the examples of presented inflection topics - explaining ancient etymology of terms used nowadays especially in the musicology field - basic information about read texts (fragments from Carmina Burana, Laus Cracoviae, psalms etc.) and about their authors - the popular literary and music topos |

| Learning outcomes: |
A student should know elementary terminology of Polish grammar connected with the inflection and syntaxy (names of cases, the part of the speech, parts of the sentence) After these classes a student: - translates simple Latin texts - describes grammar forms of Latin words and Latin syntaxy - learns fragments of original Latin texts especially about the music read by themselves - names characters from the mythology (Arion, Orpheus etc.) and history (Ciołek) and describes their stories - describes ancient motives used in the music texts (Fortuna, Kairos etc.) |
| Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
1. Constant appraisal (the current preparing to the classes and activity during them) 40% 2. Tests written during semesters – 30% 3. The final written test (translation of a text) – 30 % 4. The final test can be taken after passing all tests written during semesters. A student is allowed to rewrite the test third time if not passed the first and second one. Missing a test in the first date without a serious excuse results in the loss of the term. Absence of four hours a semester from classes is allowed |
