ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Continuation of ethnomusicology 1 and 2, four new issues: 1) contemporary musical trends using traditional ethnic material (folk, ethno-pop, folk-jazz and others), 2) musical cultures of national minorities in Poland and ethnic borderlands based on both historical sources literature of the subject, as well as contemporary everyday and festival musical life, 3) ethnomusicology of the city (street music, ethnic traditions in the urban context), music and migrations, 4) traditions of local religious singing, with particular emphasis on still-current religious customs (e.g. Lenten, May, pilgrimages, Corpus Christi processions). 5) The issues of musical nationalisms, 6) Research on the participation of women in musical life and the specific treatment of gender in musical practice, 7) Historical perspective in ethnomusicological research, 8) Applied ethnomusicology

The topics of the ethnomusicology course 1 and 2, devoted to the traditions and contemporary musical culture of Poland and Europe, are extended in the third course by four issues: 1) contemporary phenomena (popular, professional) of music culture using ethnic material (folk, ethno-pop, folk-jazz et al.), taking into account individual creators and teams; 2) musical cultures of national minorities in Poland and ethnic borderlands on the basis of both historical sources, literature on the subject, as well as contemporary everyday and festival musical life, taking into account the existing discography; 3) ethnomusicology of the city, urbanethnomusicology (street music, ethnic traditions in the urban context, music in the context of migration); 4) traditions of local religious singing, with particular emphasis on still-current religious customs (e.g. Lenten and May singing, Corpus Christi processions).

5) The issues of musical nationalisms, 6) Research on the participation of women in musical life and the specific treatment of gender in musical practice, 7) Historical perspective in ethnomusicological research, 8) Applied ethnomusicology

In addition, a study of the latest national and foreign ethnomusicological literature from the 20th / 21st century, especially devoted to the indicated issues.

Learning outcomes:

The aim of ethnomusicology 3 is to expand knowledge about contemporary changes in musical traditions so as to co-create the sociology of music, absent in the course of musicology, characterized by a long period of rooting and a wide context of social functioning
