ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 5.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The lecture is devoted to the development of medieval music in Europe. Its aim is to systematically present the most important centers of development of musical creativity, cultivated genres, stylistic trends and artists, and to explain the specificity of the period in the context of the history and culture of that time.

Learning outcomes:

Student after completing the course:

1. knows the basic terminology of musicology

2. has structured detailed knowledge of selected fields of science and scientific disciplines of methodology

3. has a basic knowledge of the main directions of development and the most important new achievements in musicology

4. is aware of the complex nature of the musical language as well as the complexity and historical changeability of its meanings

5. has basic research skills, including formulation and analysis of research problems, selection of research methods and tools, development and presentation of results, allowing for solving research problems in musicology

6. can independently acquire knowledge and develop research skills following the instructions of a scientific supervisor

7. is able to use basic theoretical approaches, research paradigms and concepts relevant to musicology in typical professional situations

8. is able to recognize various types of musical culture products and to carry out their critical analysis and interpretation using typical methods in order to determine their meanings, social impact, place in the socio-cultural process

9. has the ability to substantively argue, using the views of other authors, and formulate conclusions

10. can interact and work in a group, assuming different roles in it
