Semester I: The aim of the module is to familiarize students with the Italian language used in the enterprise in order to prepare them not only to perform translations in this field, but also to properly use specific language structures. During the classes, students perform varied tasks and translation exercises that show them the specificity of the Italian business language, for example: they complement the missing elements in the text, analyze typical language structures and collocations, contrastively analyze texts in Polish and Italian, and translate excerpts from economic texts, trade letters and various types of contracts. In the summer semester, the course focuses on developing lexis from various non-business areas in combination with viewing the most complex grammatical structures, also taking into account their use in various language competences. The course teaching programme concerns the following themes: (1) describing company framework, co-partnership types and companies classification; (2) food and drink sector: food products, ecological and environment-friendly products; (3) brands, marketing, and advertising: labels and their function, commercial slogans; (4) stock exchange, shares and bonds; (5) stakeholders, shareholders, clients and suppliers; (6) conference organization in the company; (7) the job market: professions, searching for a job, salaries, labour contracts, adverts, employees migration, résumé, interview. Learning outcomes: |
KNOWLEDGE: - knows morphological and syntactic structures, understands written statements and correctly interprets texts at B2 + level; knows the definitions of words, their synonyms and selected Italian idioms (K_W01); - has established lexical and grammatical knowledge in the field of business language (K_W02); - knows and understands elements of the culture of the Italian-speaking area, understands the role of language in interpersonal, cultural and professional communication, understands cultural differences between Poland and Italy, their socio-economic determinants (K_W10). SKILLS - has language skills at the B2 + level according to CEFR, especially in typical demanding professional situations knowledge of techniques, strategies and various communication channels (K_U07, K_U10); - can critically analyze texts as products of culture, he can search, analyze, evaluate and select authentic texts in Italian and develop professional skills in this language (K_U01); - can independently acquire knowledge in the Italian language, guided by the lecturer's instructions, can assess the usefulness of specific sources of information, e.g. dictionaries (online), corpora, articles, etc. (K_U03); - can translate from Italian to Polish and vice versa various types of written texts characteristic of business language (K_U04); - has ordered theoretical knowledge about the translation process, in including specialized translations, its types and specificity, knows basic translation techniques (K_W04); - can recognize the characteristic cultural elements and properly interpret phenomena concerning the Italian language, can adequately react in various situations typical of professional communication according to the cultural context, using the usual phrases (K_U05), (K_U08); SOCIAL COMPETENCE - is willing to cooperate and work in a group, accepting in it different roles and taking care of the rules of communication in language Italian (including the role of translator), understands the need for improvement a translator's workshop throughout life (K_K01); - is ready to set priorities and plan the actions to be used implementation of specific linguistic, communication, and especially professional tasks, understands the need for self-education and the need to continually improve qualifications (K_K03); - is ready to adequately identify and resolve communication dilemmas in Italian and Polish (K_K04); - is ready to participate in the cultural life of Poland and Italy in favor of promoting both cultures, using both traditional and modern forms and media (K_K06) - can cooperate and work in a group professionally professional; demonstrates ingenuity, activity and systematic in the implementation of own and team projects (S_K02) |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
The final grade is the average of grades obtained for completing individual course modules. At the end, the teachers of individual KKK components give a grade, taking into account the 50% to 50% rule, i.e. half = work per semester on the basis of partial grades + half = grade from the final test (exam). Methods of assessment of students’ work: - assessment of the active participation in the classes, - classroom presentations, - homework, - mid-term tests - final exam in the form chosen by the lecturer. Principles of cooperation with the leading module: 1. Absences - two unjustified absences allowed in the semester. 2. Unprepared - the student should be prepared for each class. A student may submit two unprepared forms in the semester (eg not preparing translation tasks at home). 3. Colloquia - the student is required to pass all tests before proceeding to the final test. The progress assessment and the final exam grade are established in accordance with the following scale: • more than 90% – 5 • 85%-89% – 4+ • 80%-84% – 4 • 70%-79% – 3+ • 60%-69% – 3 The student needs to receive pass marks for both modules in order to complete the course. |
