ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 6.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

Compulsory, 3st year, BA studies.

The student has knowledge of Spanish at level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Short description:

The aim of this course is to introduce students to basic concepts, research methods and subject literature, which will support them in writing their BA thesis, as well as the presentation of technical and organisational aspects of the preparation of the thesis.

Full description:

Students acquaint themselves with information that will help them prepare their BA thesis. The course is focused, on the one hand, on knowledge from the area of research (area/s is/are specified in course description for a given cycle) and, on the other hand, on the technical aspects of writing a BA thesis. As part of the content preparation, students present academic texts or excerpts from them. The formal aspects of the work on thesis that are presented include the preparation of bibliography, citation, searching for sources or editing an academic text. Students are asked to prepare written materials, including their research proposal.

Student's time investment:

30 hours in class

120 hours - student's own work (reading and analysing academic literature, preparation of texts and speeches that are required to pass the course)

150 hours in total

FORMS OF WORK

If classroom learning is impossible, the workshop will be conducted with the help of distance communication tools, most probably Google Meet and others recommended by the University.

Bibliography:

The teacher of a given cycle provides students with the list of relevant academic literature.

Knowledge:

1. The student is familiar with theoretical and methodological basis topics that fall within the scope of the selected area of research;

2. is familiar with the document “Zasady pisania prac dyplomowych w Instytucie Lingwistyki Stosowanej UW";

3. is familiar with characteristics of academic texts and can distinguish them from other sources;

4. is ready to write a BA thesis in summer semester seminar.

Skills:

1. can specify the area of research that they are interested in;

2. can find academic literature relevant to their research interests, assess their applicability, identify the suitable information and cite them;

3. can correctly use academic style in Spanish;

Attitudes:

1. Is aware of ethical questions related to carrying out research

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The assessment is of descriptive nature and is subordinated to course objectives. The materials written or presented by the students are assessed orally or in writing, with special emphasis on their strenghts and weaknesses, as well as accompanied by concrete information that will help the student to achieve learning outcomes.

The allowed number of absences is 2 per 30 contact hours.
