Prerequisites (description):

The course is dedicated to 1st year students of the 2nd cycle studies who intend to prepare their Master’s thesis in a foreign language within linguistics or literature. Students have to know a foreign language at an advanced C1 level.

Short description:

The course aims at developing students’ knowledge and skills with regard to the research methodology in the linguistic or literary field within a foreign language. The students are regarded as active participants in the learning process, with shared responsibility for their educational and professional development. The course is designed to develop their research interests and to help them to choose a future thesis subject. The program is realised in a foreign language and each student is invited to actively participate in the classes.

Full description:

The main goal of the course is to develop students’ research skills and knowledge in order to allow them to prepare a complex Master’s thesis. In the first part of the course, given applied linguistics or literary issues are discussed and characteristics of academic language and formal register, in the second part the students are expected to prepare a presentation on a given subject and carry out a text analysis.

- Classroom activities and preparation for tasks = 30h

As far as the written assignments are concerned, the following criteria are adopted. They depend on correctness and an appropriate style:

• more than 95% – 5!

• 90%-95% - 5

• 85%-89% – 4+

• 80%-84% – 4

• 70%-79% – 3+

• 60%-69% – 3
