ECTS credit allocation (and other scores):	3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles: the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS; the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h; 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes; weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS; work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:	During these workshops students will get to know the CAT (computer-aided translation) software and the techniques needed to use it within the translation process. While working with one or two most popular CAT applications, students will learn their functions and practice the whole process of work in the computer-aided translation project.
Full description:	During these workshops students will get to know the CAT (computer-aided translation) software and the techniques needed to use it within the translation process. While working with one or two most popular CAT applications, students will learn their functions and practice the whole process of work in the computer-aided translation project. Following topics will be covered during the course: basics of the translation project management – input and output files, files created by the CAT tool; creating translation memories and termbases; ways of enhancing the efficiency of translation; limitations of CAT tools; quality assurance in computer-assisted translation projects. While translating various texts (legal, technical and administrative), students will familiarize themselves with the CAT software and gain practice in using it. The theoretical part of the course is limited to the most important regulation in the field – the PN-EN 17100:2015 standard (Translation services -- Requirements for translation services, esp. the part covering the use of the computer tools in translation) – and some technical descriptions of translation memories and terminology bases.

Learning outcomes:	Knowledge: • student knows the possibilities and limitations when working with CAT tools; • student knows the technologies behind the CAT tools and their influence on the process of translation. Skills: • student can organize his/her work in computer-aided translation projects; student can work with professional CAT software.
Assessment methods and assessment criteria:	Attendance, active participation in workshops, a written exam.
