ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The classes are aimed to develop and polish phonetic skills appropriate to the correct Russian pronunciation. The subject is connected with practical learning of the Russian language as well as with contemporary grammar of the Russian language.

Full description:

Topics:

Russian phonetic system, the description of articulation of sounds, classification of sounds, the description of vowels and consonants.

Word rhythmics, properties of Russian word stress, stressed and unstressed syllables.

Elision of vowels (spelling and pronunciation), pronunciation of stressed and unstressed vowels.

Articulation of consonants, pronunciation of hard and soft consonants.

Consonant cluster (spelling and pronunciation), voicing, stunning, unpronounced consonants in cluster of consonants.

Combinations of vowels with consonants, transition of vowel “и” in “ы” at the junction of words.

Rules of phonetic transcription.

Rules of Russian spelling (morphological, phonemic, traditional).

KNOWLEDGE

1. The student knows and understands the basic phonetic terminology essential for implementation of the program

2. The student knows the classification and description of articulation of Russian sounds

SKILLS

1. The student correctly pronounces Russian sounds

2. The student can apply the basic rules of accentuation and associate them with the rules of Russian spelling

3. The student applies the basic principles of phonetic transcription

SOCIAL COMPETENCES

1. The student is ready to use new information in the right context as well as for creative thinking

2. The student is aware of the importance of correct pronunciation necessary for social relationships

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment of the course:

- presence and active participation in classes

- systematic preparation for the assigned material

- preparing homeworks and control works on time

In order to obtain a credit the following criteria are taken into account:

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects - 5,0 (very good grade)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies - 4,5 (good plus)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes not taking into account some (less important) aspects - 4,0 (good grade)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes, omitting some important aspects and with significant inaccuracies - 3,5 (satisfactory plus)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes, omitting important aspects or with serious inaccuracies - 3,0 (satisfactory)

- no achievement of the assumed learning outcomes - 2,0 (unsatisfactory)

The components of assessment:

- continuous assessment (the current preparation for classes and activities) - 30%

- control tests during the semester in the form of dictations and tests - 35%

- final oral credit – 35%

Criteria for the assessment of written statement:

a/ both spelling and punctuation correctness,

b/ compliance of the statement with the required form,

c/ correct use of language devices.

Criteria for the assessment of oral statement:

a/ articulatory and word-stress correctness,

b/ cohesion and fluency of speech,

c/ linguistic correctness.

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course.

The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.

If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.

Practical placement:

No professional training within the subject.
