ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

General humanistic knowledge gained in high school.

Short description:

The subject is one of the basic courses of the Russian Philology introduces with the basic concepts of linguistics and related disciplines as well as the Polish and Russian linguistic terminology. It presents in a synthetic way the language structure and the problems of linguistic methodology. It enables to achieve the basic instrument of studying linguistics independently and a conscious choice of further subjects within this discipline.

Full description:

The subject is of a propedeutic character. It introduces the basic linguistic issues, notions and terms as well as, partly, the sciences more or less related to linguistics (semiotics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and ethnolinguistics).

individual preparation for each class: about 30 hours (= 1 ECTS)

preparation for the written tests: about 15 hours (=0,5 ECTS)

preparation for the final examination = about 15 hours (=0,5 ECTS)

TOTAL about 90 hours

Learning outcomes:

After having completed the course the student:

KNOWLEDGE

1. Has well-ordered knowledge of the complex nature of the human languages, in particular the Russian language – its historical direction of changes of the modern development.

2. Knows the theoretical concepts and terms helpful in describing language phenomena.

3. Has the knowledge of the general structure of the linguistic disciplines and of their relation with other alike disciplines.

SKILLS

1. Is able to apply the basic linguistic terminology in the analysis of linguistic phenomena.

2. Has the skill of substantive argumentation and formulation of conclusions with respect to the points of view of other authors.

SOCIAL COMPETENCES

1. Perceives the language as a complex, yet the most perfect tool of the exchange of thought in the process of human communication.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

1. Continuous assessment (current preparation for classes and activity) – 20%

2. Three inter-semester written control tests – 80%

Final grade 5! (bdb+): current preparation for all classes and marks 5,0 of tests.

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course.

The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.

If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
