ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 3.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Knowledge of the History of Russian Literature, Introduction to Literary Studies, the History of World Literature

Short description:

The purpose of the classes is to review the most important topics of the Russian literature from 10th until 21th century, including the similarities and differences in the topical preferences of the Russian and West European writers. A further purpose is to sort out and enhance the knowledge of the Russian literary history process. The material is presented in the chronological and problem-related arrangement

Full description:

I. General issues.

1. What is to be done? Who is to blame? And other key questions of the Russian literature – introduction to the issue.

2. What is the subject of the literary work? – a theoretical look (based on the thesis of J. Pelc). Terminology and theory.

3. Great themes of the Russian literature and West European literatures – the common places and the different places.

4. Periodization. General characteristic of the individual periods.

5. Russian literature in the circle of the European philosophic and aesthetic ideas. Russian literature toward the ancient and biblical tradition.

II. Detailed issues.

1. Towards the historical milestones.

2. In the service of the society.

3. Man towards a fortune and a misfortune. Love and death.

4. Visions of nature.

III. Travel discourse.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge

− The student has well-organized knowledge of the history of the Russian literature of the X-XXI centuries (periods, tendencies, literary trends, single literary works, works of the individual authors, genres).

− The student has well-organized detailed knowledge of the problems and themes of The Russian literature.

− The student knows literature terminology.

Skills

− The student possesses research abilities in the analysis and interpretation of the literary works, especially from the viewpoint of the problems and themes.

− The student makes a periodization of the Russian literature and defines the features of the selected periods and literary trends.

− The student puts single literary works into a larger historical, cultural and literary context, both Russian and West European.

− The student recognizes Russian literary intertexts.

− The student uses literature terminology.

Social competences

− The student is aware of the contribution of the Russian culture in the cultural heritage of Europe,

− The student feels obligated to develop his own reading interests and is aware of his responsibility for the development of the reading culture,

− The student is aware of his knowledge and feels to be obligated to its further increasing.

Written examination. Attendance check. Report / presentation.

6,5-8 – 3,0 (dst)

8,5-9 – 3,5 (dst+)

9,5-10 – 4,0 (db)

10,5-11 – 4,5 (db+)

11,5-12 – 5,0 (bdb)

5! - Is able to faultlessy answer all questions (max points: 12), refers to knowledge not only from the teaching programme (points: 13).

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course. The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.

If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
