The aim of the seminar is to prepare for independently writing and defending a master's thesis in Russian on a selected topic within the scope of contemporary Russian language.

Full description:

The aim of the seminar is to prepare for independently writing and defending a master's thesis in Russian on a selected topic within the scope of contemporary Russian language. The course is dedicated to analyzing the most important issues of contemporary Russian language. During the classes, students, under the guidance of a supervisor, undertake independent analysis of the selected topic that forms the basis of their master's thesis. They prepare a detailed plan, gather literature, consult, and write the thesis.

- Seminar: 30 hours

- Thesis writing: 90 hours

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

- The student is familiar with the main issues of linguistic analysis of contemporary Russian language.

- The student is familiar with the basic methodological tools used in linguistic analysis.

- The student is familiar with the basic principles of writing academic papers.

- The student is familiar with the principles of source citation, bibliography preparation, and footnote formatting.

- The student is familiar with the terminology used in the humanities.

Skills:

- The student can research, gather, and independently analyze materials and literature related to the subject.

- The student can conduct linguistic analysis.

- The student can present well-founded arguments and draw conclusions using the ideas of other authors in Russian.

- The student can employ an academic style when writing a master's thesis in Russian.

- The student can correctly edit the thesis according to the standards of writing master's papers.

- The student can use the necessary terminology for writing a master's thesis.

- The student knows how to utilize dictionaries, specialized lexicons, and source materials, including internet sources.

Social competences:

- The student is familiar with and understands the basic concepts and principles of intellectual property protection, particularly copyright law.

- The student can appropriately use the scientific achievements of others.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Methods of assessing student's work:

- Continuous assessment

- Evaluation of progress in preparing the master's thesis.

Assessment criteria:

- Continuous assessment, master's thesis (Preparation of bibliography. Preliminary determination of the research method. Identification and initial exploration of topic contexts).

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course. The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.

If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
