Prerequisites (description):

Interest in literary issues.

Short description:

The subject matter of the review shall be broadly comprehended relations of the Russian literature with West European literatures (including the Polish literature), and also the image of the countries and regions of Europe in the Russian literature and the image of Russia in Western literatures, the issues of contacts in the area of culture and the dialog of cultures.

Full description:

Specific objectives: knowledge of the Russian literature and its European context, literature science methods and techniques.

Specific issues:

1. Literature science methods and techniques. Bibliographic standards. Techniques of a literature specialist. Choice of the professional ethics issues.

2. Title. Abstract. Keyword (humanities).

3. Comparative literature – basic theoretical issues. Terminology. Extent and division. Circle of researchers. Research perspectives.

4. Russian literature and West-European literature, image of the European countries and regions in the Russian literature, dialogue of the cultures – research examples and perspectives.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

− The student knows the rules of editing of the scientific texts in Russian and Polish.

− The student knows copyright laws.

− The student knows examples of research on the connections between the Russian and West-European literatures, the image of the European countries and regions in the Russian literature and the dialogue of the cultures.

Skills:

− The student presents the range of his scientific interests in relation to the profile of the seminar.

− The student finds his own research problem and chooses the subject of the thesis.

− The student gets necessary information from the different sources and by various methods.

− The student adds the keywords to the literature science text.

− The student writes an abstract of the literature science text.

− The student has the advanced research skills in the area of analyzing and interpreting of the literary works due to the dialogue of the cultures.

Social competences:

− The student understands a specificity of the literary studies.

− The student is aware of his responsibility for the preservation of the European cultural and literary heritage.

− The student is aware of the contribution of the Russian culture in the cultural heritage of Europe.

− The student is aware of the value of the cultural diversity and respects the signs of the interculturality.

− The student indicates the priorities for the task.

− The student is aware of his knowledge and feels to be obligated to its further increasing.

− The student feels obligated to develop his own reading interests and is aware of his responsibility for the development of the reading culture.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Term paper. Control of presence.

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course. The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.

If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
