Proficiency in the Russian language at a minimum B2 level according to the CEFR.

Short description:

The goal of the course is to acquire the ability to analyse multimodal communication (visual and audio) in the modern Russian Internet. During the course, various forms of presenting content in the Russian Internet are discussed - online press articles, TV programmes, radio programmes, blogs, vlogs, podcasts, new media (instant messengers, social networks, etc.). The form of the classes is the seminar. Presentation of selected topics is combined with interactive activities.

Full description:

Multimodality is a combination of a verbal layer in human communication, i.e. language signs (written and spoken) with non-verbal elements, such as colour, video, gestures, facial expressions, etc. The classes are aimed at acquiring the ability to analyse multimodality in the Russian Internet. During the course, authentic multimodal objects available in the Russian Internet are analysed, such as Internet press articles (combination of written language with visual and audio elements), TV programmes, radio programmes, blogs, vlogs, podcasts, new media (instant messengers, social networks etc. ). Classes are conducted in the form of a seminar in Russian. Therefore, they enable to increase communication skills in Russian. Presentation of selected topics is combined with interactive activities.

Student workload:

30 contact hours in the classroom,

30 hours of independent self-work (home tasks, analysis of multimodal objects, preparation for passing).

- cooperate in a group,

- be aware of the need for continuous education.

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment methods:

- attendance check,

- participation in the classroom activities,

- preparation of a written work.

Assessment criteria:

The final grade comprises:

- 50% is preparation for the classes and active participation in the classes

The evaluation scale is 2-5!

- 50% is grading a written work and includes the correctness of multimodal object selection, the correctness of analysis, the structure of work, style and language of work.

The final grade is the average grade of classes and a written work.

Important rules

1. Absences - the student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course.

The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.

2. If the student does not prepare the final paper and/or not submit it on time (the last classes in the semester) without justification it will result in the need to prepare a written work during a retake session (last day of a retake session).

In the case of failure to get credit on the second date, it is necessary to repeat the subject.
