Short description:

The aim of the course is to present the nineteenth century in Russia as an epoch with its own specific characteristics, the era of invention, progress and belief in bright future. The historical and social issues are touched, as well as those concerning Russian traditions, habits, religion, philosophy, art, music etc

Full description:

he aim of the course is to present different facets of Russian nineteenth century. The course includes such issues as historical background (Russian Empire in its relationships with European countries, internal policy, territorial expansion) and social questions (stratification of Russian society, demographic tendencies, ethnic and confessional minorities in Russian Empire). Everyday culture and life of different social strata is also presented in the course.

Other themes of interested that are touched upon include several branches of art such as architecture, painting, music, theatre and literature.

- has got basic information about Russian society in 19th century and the everyday life of different social strata,

- knows the most prominent works of art, music and architecture of the 19th century.
