Presentation of the most notable achievements of Russian writers of 20th century (prose, poetry, drama).

1. Russian Nobel Prize winners and their works:

1.1. Ivan Bunin – from Antonov Apples to Dark Avenues.

1.2. Boris Pasternak – his prose and poems.

1.3. Mikhail Sholokhov – universal values of And Quiet Flows the Don.

1.4. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn – moralist and labour camp in-mate (The Gulag Archipelago. An Attempt of a Literary Investigation).

1.5. Iosif Brodski – metaphysical poet of 20th century.

2. Satire of 20th century – Mikhail Zoshchenko, Ilya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov, Arkady Averchenko, Vladimir Voinovich, Sergei Dovlatov;

3. Anti-utopia genre in Russian literature of 20th century – We by Yevgeny Zamyatin compared to Orwell's 1984; Andrei Platonov – The Foundation Pit; Vladimir Nabokov – Invitation to a Beheading, Vladimir Voinovich – Moscow 2042.

- possess systematic and in-depth knowledge of the most notable authors of Russian prose, poetry and drama of 20th century

- know the most prominent Russian literary works of 20th century

- can characterize literary works of the greatest Russian writers of the 20th century while being aware of the broad context of culture and history of that time

- can identify and and interpret the selected literary works by Russian writers of 20th century

- can define the position and role of Russian literature of 20th century in the world literature;

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Final written test; number of questions – 12; maximum number of points – 30; 3,0 – points scored 10-6; 3,5 – points scored 15-11; 4,0 – points scored 20-16; 4,5 – points scored 25-21; 5,0 – points scored – 30-26; 5! – the student should obtain the maximum number of points and demonstrate extracurricular knowledge.

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

Exceeding excused and unexcused absences by 50% of classes may be grounds to fail the course.The conditions for passing the course on the resit exam are the same as on the ordinary of exam.

If it is not possible to conduct classroom classes, classes will be conducted using distance communication tools, most likely Google Classroom and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
