B.Sc. seminars

The aim of the course is for students to prepare their own diploma theses.

The seminar is devoted primarily to the preparation of students' own diploma theses.

During individual classes, each student presents a description of the concept of his work, which is discussed with the seminar leader and other class participants. Then, students will be obliged to discuss subsequent chapters of their diploma theses, discuss the theories used, and present their comparisons and conclusions. The mutual exchange of feedback is intended to help in the preparation of the diploma thesis and to develop the scientific skills of all students in the group.

In addition, subsequent classes discuss issues related to research methodology: selecting the appropriate scientific bibliography, characteristics of scientific style, structure of scientific work, reviewing scientific texts, preparing footnotes on the example of fragments of bachelor's theses prepared by students.

During classes, students also prepare for the diploma exam by discussing subsequent issues related to the knowledge acquired during their first-cycle studies.

Academic: 30 hours ECTS: 6, including:

Participation in classes 30 hours. - 1 ECTS

Student's workload related to independent study (including preparation for classes and writing a diploma thesis): - 150 hours. - 5 ECTS

After completing the course, student:

1. KNOWLEDGE:

- knows the subject and methodology characteristics and the basic terminology used in literary and language studies

- knows the basic foundations of main literary and language studies theories

- recognizes main directions of Belarusian studies

- has elementary knowledge concerning the position of Belarus in modern world and understands its influence on forming Belarusian culture and language

- recognizes authors and particular Belarusian literary works especially including literature to 1980’s

- knows the basic methods of literature analysis and interpretation related to Belarusian tradition

- has the elementary knowledge concerning Belarusian culture institutions and modern Belarusian cultural life

- knows and understands main terms and rules concerning intellectual property protection and copyright law

2. SKILLS:

- can prepare individual papers on literature and language topics

- can present the opinions of researchers concerning Belarusian literature and language and forms own conclusions concerning the development of literature and language

- can use the main translation terms during the analysis of translations from Polish into Belarusian and from Belarusian into Polish

- can prepare individual analysis of translations from Polish into Belarusian and from Belarusian into Polish, concerning moderns developments in this field

- can evaluate the meaning of particular translators from Polish into Belarusian and from Belarusian into Polish in the context of Polish-Belarusian culture contacts

- can individually gain knowledge and develop own researching skills in the fields of literature and language studies following the instructions of the tutor

- can communicate using various channels and communicative techniques with specialists in the field of Belarusian philology

3. SOCIAL COMPETENCES:

- can actively participate in group works, work of organisations and institutions involved in Belarusian problems

- can organise individual and group work concerning problem analysis of Belarusian culture occurrences

- correctly identifies and resolves dilemmas of working in the profession

- is aware of the responsibility for preserving the cultural heritage of Belarus

- participates in Belarusian cultural life using various media and its various forms
