  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;

Prerequisites (description):

Before starting the course, students should have ability to read text with understanding and learn from reading, should also be able to relate the content of the text to extratextual reality.

Short description:

The course includes the introduction of the basic issues of theory of culture. During the course ​a systematic review of concepts, researching issues and major cultural studies theory is made.

Full description:

During the classes students dealt with basic issues of theory of culture. Above all, students learn about the scientific understanding of the term culture as well as research on cultural issues. They will discuss the relationship between different cultures as well as theories of culture and ways of learning about culture. The seminar will address such definitional problems: a cultural model, cultural trend, a cultural canon. Students will be introduced to the basic issues and concepts related to various aspects of culture. Classes will allow students to understand some of the ontological problems based on the culture studies concept (e.g. relational and cultural projects, culture and human, society, civilization).

After completing the course, student:

1. KNOWLEDGE:

- understands the characteristics of Belarusian language or literature related to other languages or cultures

- has basic knowledge about Belarusian culture institutions and modern Belarusian cultural life

- has the advanced knowledge about modern Belarus culture

2. SKILLS:

- has the advanced ability to form critical opinions concerning culture works based on researches in particular fields and own experience

3. SOCIAL COMPETENCES:

In the final evaluation it will be taken into account the activity of a student in the class (including the quality of the prepared papers on a chosen topic or issue), attendance and the final oral examination.
