  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The aim of the course is to educate students-philologists of a high level of communicative and cultural linguistic competence in all spheres of social and professional life contacts in general, including economic and business. The classes are designed to develop language skills specified for the C2 level of language proficiency (ESOKJ).

Full description:

The course program presents the basics of international trade, the principles of preparation and execution of commercial transactions. A special place is occupied by the chapter devoted to correspondence and commercial documentation in Belarusian, the principles of drafting official letters and drawing up contracts.

Classes are devoted to mastering by the student a specific knowledge of the topics described below and shaping the receptive and productive skills within the framework of the entrepreneurship discourse.

Course topics:

1. Properties of the official and official style of the contemporary Belarusian language (general characteristics, lexical, grammatical and pragmatic properties, basic types of texts);

2. The contemporary labor market (market situation, employment problems, personnel selection, Internet recruitment, CV and cover letter preparation, preparation for an interview);

2. Economic activity (company presentation, types of enterprises and their structure, commercial transactions, marketing and advertising);

3. Correspondence and commercial documentation (elements of the official letter, inquiries, offers, contracts, complaints).

Preparation and presentation of papers on the following topics: "The economic situation in Belarus and in the world", "Economic migration good and bad sides", "Belarusian-Polish economic cooperation", "The most popular Belarusian brands", "The image of a modern businessman", "Woman in business " and other.

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course, the student:

1. KNOWLEDGE: knows and understands:

- the functioning of the language in a deeper degree in various contexts, incl. literature, culture, religion, history, art, politics, economy and media

- the nature of the language, the essence and the impact of historical and cultural changes on its development to a greater extent

- to a greater extent, inter-linguistic differences and similarities as well as appropriate techniques of inter-language transfer

- the essence of specialist communication, its limitations and challenges to a greater extent

- concepts and principles of intellectual property protection, in particular copyright

2. SKILLS: can:

- search, analyze, evaluate, select and use information using multilingual sources, including online sources, in unpredictable conditions

- formulate and test hypotheses related to simple research problems in the field of linguistics

- identify types of specialized texts and carry out their linguistic analysis

- communicate using various channels and communication techniques in the selected foreign language

- prepare correct, extensive, clear and consistent written work in a foreign language on selected topics, also as part of specialist communication

- use a foreign language at the level indicated in the description of the subject, also as part of specialist communication

- manage team work and collaborate in team work

- independently plan and implement one's own lifelong learning and direct others in this regard

3. COMPETENCE: is ready to:

- critical assessment of knowledge and content received

- correct identification and resolution of professional dilemmas while maintaining traditions and principles of professional ethics and developing one's own professional competences

- initiating activities for the public interest and the local environment, acting in an entrepreneurial manner

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment of the course:

- presence and active participation in classes,

- systematic preparation for the assigned material,

- preparing homeworks and control works on time,

- active participation in preparation for presentations, speeches, projects.

In order to obtain a credit the following criteria are taken into account:

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects - 5,0 (very good grade)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies - 4,5 (good plus)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes not taking into account some (less important) aspects - 4,0 (good grade)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes, omitting some important aspects and with significant inaccuracies - 3,5 (satisfactory plus)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes, omitting important aspects or with serious inaccuracies - 3,0 (satisfactory)

- no achievement of the assumed learning outcomes - 2,0 (unsatisfactory)

The components of assessment:

- continuous assessment (the current preparation for classes and activities) - 30%

- control tests during the semester - 35%

- presentations, speeches, projects – 35%

Criteria for the assessment of written statement:

a/ compliance of the statements with the topic,

b/ compliance of the statement with the required form,

c/ use of specialized vocabulary in accordance with the topic

d/ linguistic correctness.

Criteria for the assessment of oral statement:

a/ communicative efficiency (the student communicates very effectively and correctly, with fluency, uses efficient interaction strategies and rhetorical conventions)

b/ fluency and cohesion of speech, phonetic correctness

c/ correct usage of grammatical structures (full or almost full)

d/ proper and rich selection of vocabulary consistent with the topic

e/ stylistic suitability (appropriate usage of vocabulary and syntactic structures)

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires justification. The lecturer decides on the recognition of absence.

If it is not possible to conduct classes on university premises, classes

shall be held with the aid of distance learning tools, most likely Zoom, Kampus (Come) and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.
