ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 1.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

During the course student is acquainted with the material concerning the description of the articulatory sounds as well as the phonetic and basic phonological processes taking place in contemporary Ukrainian.

Full description:

Phonetics of the modern Ukrainian language covers topics in the field of phonetics and phonology. It uses material concerning the description of articulatory sounds as well as ekxpiratory and inspiratory nature of sounds, mechanism of phones, the phenomenon of co-articulation and gives the basic phonological procedure of the modern Ukrainian language. It presents the basic problems with intonation and accent. It covers the most important issues of changes in the system of vocalic and consonant articulation. It classifies and discusses the phenomenon of assimilations and dissimilation, changes of consonants and consonant groups. It communicates the main principles of the modern Ukrainian orthopeic standards.

Estimated number of hours that a student must devote to achieve the object defined for the learning outcomes - approx. 60 hours:

organized hours - 2 hours. per week x 1 semester = 30 hours

preparation for each class - about 1 hour before each class = 15 hours

preparation for an exam: – 15 hours

If it is not possible to conduct classes on university premises, classes shall be held with the aid of distance learning tools, most likely Google Meet and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.

Learning outcomes:

After the course:

K1_W01 The student knows the terminology and methods employed in linguistic sciences to an advanced degree;

K1_W04 The student knows and understands the nature of language and both historical complexity and changes of its meanings.

K1_W06 The student knows and understands to an advanced degree, the state and directions of development of modern Ukrainian language

K1_U01 The student is able to search, critically analyze and evaluate, select and use information about the Ukrainian language

K1_ U02 The student is able to use theoretical approaches proper to Ukrainian linguistics

K1_U08 The student can communicate with the environment using philological terminology

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Conditions for passing the subject:

- continuous assessment, or active participation in classes - 40%

- systematic preparation for classes of the given material - 40%

- individual scientific (research) project - 20%

The student has the right to be absent 2 times, with each absence above that limit requiring justification.

The ratio of absence to presence should not be greater than 50%. When having failed to comply with this regulation, a student may be asked to take the examination in the following year when the requirement has been met.

The student can make up for their absence by coming to individual consultations in duty hours or by doing an additional assignment.

The results of the pass depends on meeting the following criteria expressed in percentages:

60% – 68% - 3 (satisfactory grade)

69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)

78% - 85% - 4 (good grade)

86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)

92% - 97 % - 5 (very good grade)

98% -100% - 5 !(excellent grade)
