Prerequisites (description): | Basic knowledge on the Ukrainian linguistics, knowledge of Ukrainian language. The course is realized in form of seminar. |

Short description: |
The main aim of the course is making students acquainted with the most important grammar topics of contemporary Ukrainian (syntax) including functional categories, sentence structure, syntax transformations and the rules of Ukrainian language description on the level of syntax. |

Detailed topics dicussed during the classes and lectures include: syntactic and functional-semantic categories, syntactic functions, parsing of syntax constructions, structure of sentences: formal-syntactic, semantic-syntactic and topic-comment. Part of the class is devoted to the relationship between syntax and punctuation. Student’s work number of hours: Contact hours – 30 hours Self-study for each class - one hour per week – 30 hours preparation for exam – 30 hours total – about 90 hours. If it is not possible to conduct classes on university premises, classes shall be held with the aid of distance learning tools, most likely Google Meet and others recommended by the University of Warsaw. |

Learning outcomes: |
After course student: Has well-organised detailed knowledge on terminology, theory and research methodology of linguistics (K1_W01) Has structured knowledge in Ukrainian linguistics, knows the specificity of the subject of Ukrainian linguistics (K1_W06) Has structured knowledge on the connections of the linguistics and the other studies (K1_W03) Has structured knowledge on main movements of development and most important new achievements of Ukrainian Philology (K1_w06) Has structured knowledge on complex nature of language and its historical changes (K1_W04) Is able to apply theoretical aspects and terms appropriate for Ukrainian linguistics (K1_U01, K1_U02) is able to state and solve task of Ukrainian linguistisc (K1_u05) Is able to communicate using appropriate terminology (K1_U08) |
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: |
Conditions for completing the course and admission to the final exam: - continuous assessment, ie active participation in classes, passing tests, participation on individual presentation (analyse of the language) The course ends with a written exam, where the assessment criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds (points obtained from the written exam) 60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory) 69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus) 78% - 86% - 4 (good) 87% - 90% - 4+ (good plus) 91%-98% - 5 (very good 99% -100% - 5! (Very good with an exclamation mark) Student can sit an exam for the second time in second session. The exam has the same form and condition as during first time. The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires an explanation. The lecturer will decide whether to accept absence or not. The form for completion of classes on which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer. If the total absences excused and unexcused exceeds 50 % of classes, this may be the basis to which the student fails the course. |
