ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Classes in learning Ukrainian at the C1 level introducing concepts and terminology in the field of interpersonal communication, presenting typical models of communication in the media, politics, science, etc.

Full description:

The course is intended for students of the 3rd year of undergraduate studies who already know Ukrainian very well. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the principles of communication in various situations, other than daily contacts, as well as to familiarize them with the main substyles of the language used in them. Particular attention is paid to the language of mass-media, taking into account false information and methods of manipulation, as well as the language of social media, hate speech.

The basic principles of the diplomatic protocol, the principles of creating official magazines, speeches, etc. will also be discussed.

An important element of the course is the analysis of various materials and the independent creation of short texts of various types.

Learning outcomes:

The student knows the terminology and methods employed in linguistic sciences to an advanced degree (K1_W01 )

The student knows the complex nature and historical variability of language to an advanced degree (K1_W04)

The student knows directions in contemporary Ukrainian language studies (K1_W06)

The student is able to search, critically analyze and evaluate,

select and use information about the Ukrainian language (K1_U01)

The student is able to operate on theoretical approach of Ukrainian language (K1_U02)

The student is able to formulate and do scientific quest in Ukrainian linguistics

The student can communicate with the environment using philological terminology (K1_W08)

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Conditions for passing the subject:

- continuous assessment, or active participation in classes

- systematic preparation for classes of the given material

The student has the right to be absent 2 times, with each absence above that limit requiring justification.

The ratio of absence to presence should not be greater than 50%. When having failed to comply with this regulation, a student may be asked to take the examination in the following year when the requirement has been met.

The student can make up for their absence by coming to individual consultations in duty hours or by doing an additional assignment.

The results of the pass depends on meeting the following criteria expressed in percentages:

60% – 68% - 3 (satisfactory grade)

69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)

78% - 85% - 4 (good grade)

86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)

92% - 97 % - 5 (very good grade)

98% -100% - 5 !(excellent grade)
