The student should have knowledge of descriptive grammar of the Ukrainian language.

The student should have skills in the use of Ukrainian at B1 level, Polish at B2 level.

Classroom

In this class, the systems of modern Polish and Ukrainian languages are considered in a comparative aspect. This topic allows to present common and different features of both languages. The confrontational analysis concerns all planes of language: phonetics, lexis, phraseology, vocabulary, morphology, syntax. In addition to this, the history of the two languages is considered, making it possible to explain the causes of convergence and divergence in the language systems. The subject is connected with classes in descriptive grammar, syntax, lexis and vocabulary, historical grammar of the Ukrainian language, as well as culture and stylistics of the Polish language.

The class is designed to help students master the confrontational grammar of Polish and Ukrainian.

The history of both languages has common roots. The subject of part of the class is the processes of forming the Polish and Ukrainian languages. Among other things, students learn about the origin of Polish and Ukrainian lexis.

The phonetic and phonological, lexical, phraseological, word-forming, morphological and syntactic systems of both languages are consistently examined in a comparative aspect. An important element of the course is to familiarize students with, among other things, lexical semantics, passive lexis, grammatical categories, sentence structure in Polish and Ukrainian.

Students' mastery of contrastive grammar also complements their understanding of the relationships that occur between elements of the language system.

The linguistic material necessary for confrontational analysis expands students' linguistic competence, as classes are conducted in Ukrainian.

If it is not possible to conduct classes in a classroom format, the classes will be held using distance communication tools, most likely Google Meet and recommended by the UW.

Estimated total number of hours that the student must spend to achieve the learning outcomes defined for the course - 60 hrs.

Classes - 30 hrs.

Independent work of the student: current preparation for classes - 15 hours, preparation for credit - 15 hours.

Upon completion of the course, the student will:

1. knowledge:

- knows and understands to an advanced degree the study of Ukrainian-Polish contrastive grammar, knows the subject and methodological specificity of the subject, terminology and the specificity of philological research (S1_W01);

- knows and understands to an advanced degree the complex nature of language and the complexity and historical variability of its meanings (S1_W06);

2. skills:

- can use theoretical approaches, research paradigms and concepts specific to contrastive grammar in typical professional situations (S1_U04);

- is able to communicate with specialists in linguistics and translation studies in Polish and Ukrainian using various communication channels and techniques (S1_U06).

Conditions for admission for credit:

- current preparation for classes,

- attendance in class (the student is entitled to two absences).

Components of assessment:

- continuous, formative assessment (current preparation for classes, activity, etc.) - 10%

- written credit - 90%.

Criteria for passing (percentage thresholds):

99% -100% - 5 !(very good grade with an exclamation mark).

96% - 98% - 5 (very good grade)

87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus grade)

78% - 86% - 4 (good grade)

69% - 77% - 3+ (rating sufficient plus)

60% - 68% - 3 (sufficient grade)

The student has the right to pass the course in the revision session under the same rules as in the basic session.
