ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 8.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

The classes serve to develop language competences at level A2 for students who know Ukrainian from home or school.

The content is relative to the cognitive and

communicative needs of the participants. Accordingly, the classes cover a series of practical exercises (lexical and grammatical), oriented

to dealing with typical situations.

Full description:

The classes are managed in the Ukrainian language, with part of explanations offered in Polish. The content is relative to the cognitive and communicative needs of the participants. Accordingly, the classes cover a series of practical exercises (lexical and grammatical), oriented to dealing with typical situations. The aim is to develop language competences, enabling the learner to use vocabulary and grammatical means through:

-active listening to texts, short radio / television programs, and revision of vocabulary already learned (expressions and sentences);

-listening to native-speakers and practicing communication skills and speaking in short dialogues with the native-speaker;

-practicing and solidifying lexical material and grammatical structures in written and oral formats;

Along with text books, specially selected short excerpts of press articles, literary texts, and Internet resources are used. The following techniques and didactic tools are used in classes: audiovisuals and multimedia, diverse recordings, and mnemonics.

The students learn the language through topics related to:

-cultural and historic aspects of Ukraine, descriptions of main cities and tourist attractions, viewing photographs, tourist guide books and folders;

-the use of props and paraphernalia from Ukraine.

The student should devote a large no. of hours to the process of learning (extensive reading, watching television programs and authentic films are expected). The total no. of hours should cover: in-class time (15 weeks per semester, 8 hours per week) and self-study time (100 hours per semester).

Learning outcomes:

A student knows and understands Ukrainian in both writing and speaking according to the requirements determined for A2 level of CEFR (K1_W09)

A student can communicate in Ukrainian both writing and speaking according to the requirements determined for A2 level of CEFR (K1_09)

A student is ready to plan his own work as well as working in group (K1_U12

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Conditions for passing the subject and admission to the final exam:

-constant assessment (presence, activity) 35%

- tests - 35%

- individual and group projects 30%

Subject end with exam. Final mark contains exam result (70%), work during term (30%)

Written exam - the assessment criteria are presented in the form of interest thresholds (points obtained from the written exam)

60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)

69% - 77% - 3+ (rated satisfactory plus)

78% - 85% - 4 (good)

86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)

92% - 97% - 5 (very good)

98% -100% - 5! (Very good with an exclamation mark)

Criteria:

knowledge of grammatical structures, vocabulary and spelling

test - 60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory) 69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus) 78% - 86% - 4 (good) 87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus) 96% - 98% - 5 (very good), 99% -100 - 5! (very good with an exclamation mark)

development / criteria:

a / compliance with the topic b / text coherence c / lexical, grammatical and spelling correctness

Attendance at classes is mandatory. The student is entitled to 2 (for 30 hours) unexcused absences. Each additional absence requires the student to submit justification. The recognition of the absence is left to the teacher's discretion.

If the total number of unexcused and excused absences is more than half of the total number of class hours, this could be the basis for failure of the course.
