  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Short description:

Mastering the Ukrainian language to a degree enabling communication in various everyday situations and

acquainting students with the elements of touring the Ukrainian language area; developing language skills (especially

communication competence) at level B1 after the first semester. The aim of the course is also to train skills in the field

listening, speaking, reading, writing and assimilating and extending students' language competences.

Full description:

Classes conducted in Ukrainian, Polish is used only as an auxiliary, provide lexical exercises and

grammar. The teaching content is subordinated to the assumption of being open to students' cognitive and communication needs. The aim of

classes is the development of the following language competences:

- listening to texts, recordings, TV programs, radio and oral statements of native speakers of Ukrainian, as well as

performing oral exercises (conversations on various topics - more complex statements), and through this exercise and improving pronunciation;

- learning vocabulary related to various areas of student life and more broadly - man in society, reading information on

subject of a given country: press and Internet news (ads, advertising, brochures, letters, timetable);

- developing skills for self-expression in Ukrainian by writing texts of varying degrees of difficulty,

e.g. essays, essays, and consolidation of the correct spelling (spelling) through short dictations;

- emphasis on developing speaking skills - describing current events and own experiences, explaining plans and intentions,

reasons, views and opinions, active participation in the discussion, presentation of material from various areas of society.

Classes are devoted in detail to the development of communication competence - the topic is presented in each class, and

the student has the opportunity to become familiar with the lexical resource related to the topic, structures, allowing free

discussing the topic in a general and detailed way, expressing your position - arguments for and against, justifying your own

opinions, views.

The classes use fragments of the press, literary texts, tourist folders, texts available on the Internet, films and recordings

radio and television programs. Didactic texts are selected to achieve specific effects in language teaching,

supplemented with tasks and exercises; listening to recordings with questions checking understanding of the text and short exercises

grammar; using learned words and phrases in independent written and oral statements.

In class, innovative methods, techniques and didactic means used:

- using audiovisual and multimedia materials - music videos, films, music recordings, radio programs, films

advertising, listening to contemporary songs, carols and fairy tales; watching movies without subtitles;

- using online resources - reading the daily press, searching for information,

- familiarizing students with the culture and history of Ukraine, describing the main cities and tourist attractions, viewing photos;

- using props from Ukraine during classes, necessary to approximate hypothetical communication situations,

in which students can be in the country of the language being taught.

The aim of the course is also to train skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and to assimilate and expand

language competence of students in the field of:

1. general understanding of written and spoken texts of varying levels of difficulty;

3. expressing the content learned in class in text or auditory form, in grammatically correct oral and written expression

(Complex);

4. expressing own opinion using the lexical resource and information obtained during classes;

5. communicating in typical social situations; understanding relationships in the process of human communication; skill

reacting in life situations;

6. conducting conversations on topics taken from everyday life and in everyday situations, as well as skills

preparing statements on more difficult topics (active participation in discussions, debates etc.);

Knowledge of grammar rules provides: the ability to build grammatically correct sentences; ability to solve correctly

grammar and grammar and vocabulary exercises;

After completing the semester the student knows the language at level B1.

Student workload

Number of hours per semester - 120 (8 hours per week)

During organized classes - 4 ects (120 hours)

Individual work, including final test preparation - 3 ects (90 hours).

If it is not possible to conduct classes on university premises, classes

shall be held with the aid of distance learning tools, most likely Google

Meet and others recommended by the University of Warsaw.

Learning outcomes:

Knowledge: the graduate knows and understands

Ukrainian language in speaking and writing in accordance with the requirements specified for level B1 of the European System of Description for Language Education (K1_W09)

Skills: the graduate can

communicate in speech and in writing in Ukrainian in accordance with the requirements set for level B1 of the European Language Training Description System (K1_U09)

plan and organize individual and team work (K1_U12)

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Subject end with credit of degree. Final mark contains credit of degree result (70%), work during term (30%)

Written test - the assessment criteria are presented in the form of interest thresholds

60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)

69% - 77% - 3+ (rated satisfactory plus)

78% - 85% - 4 (good)

86% - 91% - 4+ (good plus)

92% - 97% - 5 (very good)

98% -100% - 5! (Very good with an exclamation mark)

Criteria:

knowledge of grammatical structures, vocabulary and spelling

test - 60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory) 69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus) 78% - 86% - 4 (good) 87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus) 96% - 98% - 5 (very good), 99% -100 - 5! (very good with an exclamation mark)

development / criteria:

a / compliance with the topic b / text coherence c / lexical, grammatical and spelling correctness

Attendance at classes is mandatory. The student is entitled to 2 unexcused absences per each 30 hour class . Each additional absence requires the student to submit justification. The recognition of the absence is left to the teacher's discretion.

If the total number of unexcused and excused absences is more than half of the total number of class hours, this could be the basis for failure of the course.
