ECTS credit allocation (and other scores): 2.00 Basic information on ECTS credits allocation principles:
  • the annual hourly workload of the student’s work required to achieve the expected learning outcomes for a given stage is 1500-1800h, corresponding to 60 ECTS;
  • the student’s weekly hourly workload is 45 h;
  • 1 ECTS point corresponds to 25-30 hours of student work needed to achieve the assumed learning outcomes;
  • weekly student workload necessary to achieve the assumed learning outcomes allows to obtain 1.5 ECTS;
  • work required to pass the course, which has been assigned 3 ECTS, constitutes 10% of the semester student load.

Prerequisites (description):

The student can cope in numerous situations during a journey to English-speaking countries. Without prior preparation the student can join conversations regarding familiar private or everyday topics (eg family, interests, work, travel and current events). (communication).


The student can combine expressions in a simple way to describe experiences and events, as well as his dreams, hopes and ambitions. He can briefly justify and explain his own views and plans. The student can report events and tell the plot of books or films, describing his own reactions and impressions. (speaking).


The student can write simple texts when given topics familiar to him or related to his interests. He can write private letters describing his experiences and impressions. (writing).

Short description:

The aim of the course is to allow students to master the English language to the extent enabling communication in a number of everyday situations (both work and leisure) at the B1 + level with reference to speaking, reading, writing and listening.

Full description:

The subject is effectuated in the form of practical workshop - 30h

The aim is to teach students the English language at the level which enables communication in a variety of situations, while acquainting them with elements of the history of English speaking countries. The aim is also to hone language skills in the remit of listening, speaking, reading and writing, with special heed paid to developing communicative competences, developing language awareness and ability to participate in discussions.

The content of the study:

- acquainting students with vocabulary concerning such general themes as: weather, people, media, health aenvironment, social matters;

- preparing students for using grammatical structures, such as: present tenses, past tenses, comparative and superlative adjectival forms, quantifiers, personal pronuons, linking devices, modal verbs expressing probabilty, conditional sentences;

acquainting students with writing formats (short review, electronic e-mail to express gratefulness, short comparative essay, a paragraph, a short article.

Lessons are conducted in accordance with the Communicative Approach.

Learning outcomes:

The student knows and understands the English language in speech and writing in accordance with the requirements for the B2 + level of the European System of Language Description (K1_W10)

The student can communicate in speech and in writing in English in accordance with the requirements for the B2 + level of the European System of Language Description (K1_U10)

The student is ready to critically evaluate his knowledge and obtained content (K1_K01))

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

Assessment components:

Final credit is given on the basis of a written test where the assessment criteria are presented according to the following scale:

60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)

69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus)

78% - 86% - 4 (good)

87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)

96% - 98% - 5 (very good)

99% -100% - 5! (Very good with an exclamation mark)

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires an explanation. Exceeding absences of absence (justified and unexcused) at 50% of classes may resulut in the student's failure to get a credit.
