Short description:

The main aim of the subject is to draw the student's attention to the specificity of the analysis of a literary work as a work of art, developing analytical skills based on historical theory and the latest research in the field of poetics, as well as shaping an aesthetic attitude when collecting works of fiction.

Full description:

The main goal of the course is to draw the student's attention to the character of the analysis of a literary work as a work of art, to develop analytical skills based on historical theory and the latest research in the field of poetry, as well as to shape aesthetic attitudes in the reception of works of fine literature. Student knows the basic issues of historical and descriptive poetics. Thoroughly analyzes the various sections of poetics. She/he acquires knowledge about the structural properties of literary work, the tools used to analyze a literary convention, its variants and individual accomplishments. The classes deal with: the development and transformation of literary forms throughout history, depending on particular ages/eras, periods, currents; rules of immanent rules of literary work (immanent poetics); to formulate the rules for qualifying specific works as those that meet the requirements of literary creation in historical variability.

Learning outcomes:

After completing the course the student: knows and understands the advanced terminology and methodology of literary studies (K1_W02)

can use theoretical approaches proper to Ukrainian literature (K1_U04)

is ready to critically evaluate its knowledge and content (K1_K01) and to comply with ethical principles, including using someone else's scientific achievements (K1_K03)

Assessment methods and assessment criteria:

The condition for admission to pass the subject and to the exam is attendance at the classes (in accordance with the Study Regulations at the University of Warsaw)

The student has the right to 2 unexcused absences, each subsequent one requires an explanation. The lecturer decides about the recognition of absence.

The form of passing the classes on which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer.

Exceeding absences of absence justified and unexcused for 50% of classes may be the basis for failure to credit the subject.

Passing the subject - the exam is in the form of a written test (5 closed questions and 5 open questions). The evaluation criteria are presented in the form of percentage thresholds:

60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory)

69% - 77% - 3+ (rated satisfactory plus)

78% - 86% - 4 (good)

87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus)

96% - 98% - 5 (very good)

99% -100% - 5! (Very good with an exclamation mark)

The following criteria shall apply to crediting:

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects - 5.0 (very good grade)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes covering all relevant aspects with a small number of errors or inaccuracies - 4.5 (good plus)

- achieving the assumed learning outcomes without taking into account some (less important) aspects - 4.0 (good grade)

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes, omitting some important aspects and with significant inaccuracies - 3.5 (satisfactory plus)

- achievement of the assumed learning outcomes, omitting significant aspects or with serious inaccuracies - 3.0 (satisfactory plus)

- failure to achieve the expected learning outcomes - 2.0 (unsatisfactory)
