The classes are focused on micro- and macro-structure of texts, structural differences between Polish and English texts, and cultural differences between source and target languages. The aim is also to practise using compensation methods in the remit of structures, lexical units, and cultures in translating from English into Polish. |

The classes are focused on micro- and macro-structure of texts, structural differences between Polish and English texts, and cultural differences between source and target languages. The aim is also to practise using compensation methods in the remit of structures, lexical units, and cultures in translating from English into Polish. Teaching contents: 1. Introduction to the course; unit of translation; the concept of equivalence 2. Using dictionaries and other sources 2. Translating SL structures absent in TL (Eng-Pol, Pol-Eng) 3. Translating proper names 4. Translating titles, headlines, slogans 5. Translating idioms, proverbs and false friends 6. Features of formality and informality 10. Translating SL cultural associations absent in the TL Types of text translated throughout the course include a) marketing texts b) historical texts c) legal texts Didactic methods: grammar-translation method The no. of hrs the student should study the subject consists of: * time in-class 30 h * self-study 30 h 60h = 2 ECTS |

Learning outcomes: |
KNOWLEDGE - student creates and understands English language texts, both spoken and written (on the level B2 Plus / ESOKJ) (K1_W10) SKILLS - student has the skills necessary to communicate in the English language on the level of B2 Plus / ESOKJ) (K1_U10) - student has the skills enabling them to plan their own work and to work in a team (K2_U12). SOCIAL COMPETENCE - student is able to critically evaluate their own knowledge and received messages (K1_K01). |

Requirements and grading components (at the first and second attmept to pass the course): -formative assessment (being prepared for classes) - 30% -tests and translation tests – 20% (home assignment) 20% (home assignment) 30% (in-class assignment) 60% - 68% - 3 (satisfactory) 69% - 77% - 3+ (satisfactory plus) 78% - 86% - 4 (good) 87% - 95% - 4+ (good plus) 96% - 98% - 5 (very good) 99% -100% - 5! (Very good rating with an exclamation mark) it is obligatory to attend classes The student has the right to 3 unexcused absences. The form of crediting the classes in which the student was absent is determined by the lecturer. |
